As I join you in Shawano, I figured I would share a little about myself and the path God led me on to become a pastor. I grew up in Box Elder, SD (Black Hills) and attended the Douglas school district (public school). I graduated High School in 2005 and enrolled at Black Hills State University (BHSU, in Spearfish, SD) where I received my BSED in Mathematics. When I was a Junior at BHSU, I walked down the street and found my first WELS church. It wasn’t long at all before God led me become a member and become extremely involved in the church. Aside from volunteering at many events, I was elected onto the Council and served as the Chairman of Youth Discipleship of Hope Lutheran Church (Spearfish, SD). During my time at Hope, I also served as a lay-delegate to three District Conventions and one Synod Convention where I learned much about our church body and was blessed to meet many other members of our church body many times.
After graduating from BHSU in 2009, I acquired a teaching position at Dupree High School (Dupree, SD) as the High School Mathematics teacher. I taught for two years, during which time I completed online courses from Martin Luther College (MLC, in New Ulm, MN) to become Synod-certified to teach.
After much prayer and encouragement, I switched from teaching to the Pastoral tract at MLC and became a full-time student again. In my two years at MLC, I met my wife Bethany Parsons (Fleischmann). Bethany graduated from MLC with a BSED in Life Science. We married in 2015 after my first year at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (WLS, in Mequon, WI). Before my Vicar year, God blessed us with our first daughter Mary, who is now a bouncy two-year-old who loves to sing. Our second daughter, Charlotte, just arrived on June 22, and we couldn’t be happier.
As we work through all these new transitions in our lives, my family and I look forward to joining you in Shawano and are so thankful for the brothers and sisters we have in Christ. We enjoy growing in God’s Word and look forward to all the blessings God has in store for us at Divine Savior.
